It is during these resting times when bodywork and massage are ideal. An experienced therapist should be noticing the movement and strength used during a swim. Limitations to the gait and movement are detectable in the 3 dimensionality of water – and then during …

Sophie’s Story

Sophie’s Story

Sophie came into our life ten years ago this past August. Our journey really began two years before that, in August 2005. On the day that Hurricane Katrina made its’ horrific landfall in Louisiana, our vet and her assistant arrived at our home to euthanize our beautiful Mexican rescue dog, Victoria. Little did we know that two years later we would meet and fall in love with another amazing dog who would ultimately be diagnosed with Osteosarcoma.

Bladder Expression

With bowel incontinence, the bowels usually eventually move… but not with urine which a dog can retain. It is therefore important that your dog eliminate as much urine as possible from the bladder on a regular basis or he/she will risk getting a urinary infection which could, if left untreated, become a kidney infection. Bowel Expression

This is a picture of a male dog from behind. In expressing the bowels, you are only helping provide stimulation where the body is compromised and needs help. Once your dog begins to pass feces, continue gently drawing those circles until he’s done. Don’t be in a hurry. I use …

Guido – Water Therapy for Degenerative Myelopathy

Living with Degenerative Mylopethy Guido was always an active dog. One of his self-appointed “jobs” was to herd our first Corgi, Vera, as she chased the tennis ball in our back yard. It was a job he took seriously and performed vigorously, often to Vera’s annoyance. American/Canadian Ch. Caralon Brookehaven Hearthrob (Ch Brookehaven Pfeif and Drum X Ch Caralon’s Lana Lee), but to us a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named “Guido”, came to us after a successful show and agility career, …
